~ Ciao Lovies ~
How are you on this beautiful hump day!? Ready to share some musings? Today I want to share with you my own personal review/opinion on planners. I am a "planner" by nature. There is not a time in my memory when I can't remember my mother having/using her turquoise leather bound Franklin Covey planner. We fondly referred to it as "The bible" in our household. Not only did it hold the schedule of every family member, but it also contained the address, phone number, email, cell number, blood type, etc... of every single person my mother (and our family) had ever known or met. This thing was so well kept & updated that it could have rivaled any encyclopedia. So, it should come with little to no surprise that I myself also need & use a planner to write in.
In high school I got my first planner...a navy, canvas Franklin Covey student planner; #nerdalert! Then in college I used this adorable, snarky little Anne Taintor planner (that my BFF introduced me to). Next, after college graduation, came my very first "big girl" planner...the Kate Spade Wellesley Planner. They don't even make this binder/planner anymore; the only thing they make are the inserts. So last year I bought, used, & loved the Erin Condren life planner. It was amazing in every way possible and accommodated me as a mother, wife, and blogger perfectly. BUT...because I always get a horrific case of FOMO (fear of missing out), I cheated on Erin Condren (yes Audrey I'm admitting it now) and ordered the new Kate Spade 2015 agenda back in August. I used it for five months and am here today to officially eat crow...in public. I was so disappointed with the difference in the two planners that I ended up ordering an Erin Condren as to replace my Kate Spade one. Below I will explain why...
In all honesty I liked the design of the Kate Spade better. I loved the gold polka dots and that's one of the big reasons I switched! But, the Erin Condren planner does come in some really cute packaging. Who wouldn't love opening this!?
However, as you can plainly see...whatever material KS uses on their planners does not stand the test of time. After only 5 months the cover is peeling and destroyed. I wish it was more "protective."
As you can see they both have pockets (which is great), and similar monthly layouts...
But I like the layout of the daily pages on the Erin Condren better than the Kate Spade. There was nothing wrong with how KS did it...this is just solely my opinion.
Lastly, there are all these little added touches that EC has like the ruler/page divider,
the clear storage pouch,
and the event/reminder stickers.
It should be noted that Kate Spade is still one of my favorite designers. I was so hopeful about this new agenda since I loved their old leather bound Wellesley. However, regarding planners, this was a lesson learned. Just because something new & shiny comes along doesn't mean that it's better. This same lesson can be applied to anything in our life. Like the old girl scouts song goes..."make new friends, but keep the old ones...one is silver and the other's gold." My Erin Condren planner is gold to me!
What planners/agendas do you love and use!?

ReplyDeleteA planner is one thing I don't have that I really need!! Something about being able to write it all down really helps.

Such a bummer about the Kate Spade planner! I've been wanting to try those out but now I'm not so sure after seeing what happened after only 5 months!! I had an Erin Condren planner last year and while I liked it, the size got to me because I love to bring my planner everywhere with me. I went with a Sugar Paper one from Target this year and so far, so good!
ReplyDeleteI'm such a planner junkie too! The same thing happened to my Vera Bradley planner this year after 3 months, so I just switched to a Plum Paper Planner (i'll be reviewing it soon)! The Erin Condren was my other top choice!

So fun to be a feature!! Thank you so much :):) And I LOVE planners--people at my office make fun of me because I use that and not my phone--but I am old school and it works for me!

I use a Day Designer and am obsessed with it! I had an Erin Condren a few years ago, but actually like my new one even better!
ReplyDeleteI posted last week about my favorite planners (including Kate Spade and Erin Condren). Right now though my favorite is the Day Designer.
